Advanced Elements Lagoon 2 Review: Kayak Overview

Advanced Elements Lagoon 2The Advanced Elements Lagoon 2 inflatable kayak is designed for 2 people to enjoy together on rivers, lakes, and even some calmer seas. It’s agile, and the reinforced bow makes it very responsive.

The Lagoon 2 is relatively wide for a kayak and has a flat hull, which makes it incredibly stable but limits speed. It’s also a bit harder to paddle due to drag. The stability of the Lagoon 2 makes this a very difficult kayak to capsize.

We recommend against folding it the same way after each use, as the repeated bending of the material can weaken it. You should also dry it completely before storing it away for longer periods to avoid the accumulation of mold.

Kayak Design and Construction

Advanced Elements Lagoon 2 KayakThe material of the Advanced Elements Lagoon 2 is sturdy enough to withstand bumps and skids along the shore and in the water. This is due in fact to the tough, quality materials used to make the outer and inner covers.

The topside of the outer cover is made from high denier (fiber thickness or density) Polyester Rip-stop fabric with a PVC laminate, while the bottom side consists of PVC Tarpaulin, which is made from two PVC sheets and a mesh fabric in between for the sturdiest product. The inner tube cover is made from high density fabric that’s as durable as it is comfortable to sit in, adding stiffness and protection from abrasion to an otherwise lightweight kayak.

This inflatable kayak features a bow and stern reinforced with rigid panels to give you the best tracking performance possible, allowing you to cut through the water at a smooth and steady pace. The hull design includes a tracking fin and landing fin to stabilize launching off shore and steering through water.

Although there is no foot support, there is ample leg room, and the included foldable seat features a back rest for the best, most comfy support. This highly supportive seat allows for hours upon hours of paddling with little to no discomfort. The fit within each cockpit is comfortable, but snug.

Electronically welded seams protect against any leakage that may occur, while an inflatable coaming for a spray skirt attachment keeps water from sloshing into the cockpit. Bungee deck lacing offers a convenient spot for stashing gear, and a mesh pocket allows you to store additional necessities for your journey.

Best Features

Advanced Elements Lagoon2High flow Twistloc valves and Spring valves ensure a speedy set up and deflation time, allowing you to spend less time unpacking and more time paddling. Users report an inflation and set up time of less than 15 minutes, which becomes much shorter if you use an electric air pump.

The Lagoon2 also has Velcro paddle holders. The 2 part outside cover is both lightweight and durable, specifically designed for the topside and hull. The reinforcement plates within the bow and stern define the kayak’s edges, which allows for easier tracking and smoother paddling in the water.

Storage and Portability

At thirty four pounds, the Lagoon 2 is a bit heftier than some of the other inflatable kayaks offered by Advanced Elements, but the rubber molded handle makes for easy carrying. The Lagoon 2 packs down and fits into its provided carrying bag, measuring just 29 inches by 18 inches. It’s no bigger than a suitcase, and can be easily carried depending on who’s carrying it.

If you have limited space, the Lagoon 2 is a great choice. There’s no need for an overhead rack or trailer to transport it – just throw it in your trunk. At home, the compact size of the Lagoon 2 allows you to store it just about anywhere that’s convenient, making it perfect for those who live in smaller houses or apartments.

The compact size and easy set really make this a kayak that is easy to live with. Hard shell tandem kayaks can be heavy and bulky, and require at least two people to carry to and from the car or water.

What’s Included?

The Advanced Elements Lagoon 2 inflatable kayak includes a heavy duty duffel bag for easy carry and storage, plus 2 adjustable folding seats. There is also an owner’s manual with setup directions and a kayak repair kit just in case a patch is ever needed.

All Advanced Elements kayaks include a one year warranty which covers materials and manufacturer defects. We would really love to see this warranty duration extended to two or three years.

Another thing that we would like to see added in the future is a pump and a paddle.

FAQ

Can I bring my dog on the Advanced Elements Lagoon 2?
Definitely! Depending on the size of your canine, you can either have him or her cozy in your lap or in the other cockpit if they’re a heftier breed. Your buddy’s claws shouldn’t be able to puncture through the half inch floor mat that covers the interior floor of the kayak.

Is the Lagoon 2 comfortable?
The Advanced Elements Lagoon2 kayak is extremely comfortable, as the included padded seat has a high back to support you for hours on end.

How long does it take to inflate?
Set up and inflation shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes – some seasoned kayakers have even reported a set up time of 5 minutes. You’ll have the Lagoon 2 on the water in no time flat.

Do I need an overhead rack to transport this?
Not at all. The Advanced Elements Lagoon2 packs down into a neat little package that you can stow away in any trunk. Due to its compact size, you can even bring it with you on overseas trips.

Final Thoughts

Recommended for convenience, value, and overall quality, the Advanced Elements Lagoon 2 inflatable kayak is a great choice for beginners and advanced paddlers alike.

Despite its wide frame, larger paddlers may find the Lagoon 2 to be lacking in leg room — particularly if you’re very tall or have extremely long legs. Most will be able to fit, but things may feel a big snug.

The max load is a little lower than some tandem boats, so make sure you and your paddling partner weigh less combined than the max capacity of 350 pounds. Larger kayakers may want to invest in the backbone accessory to help support the extra weight.

The standout feature of the Lagoon 2 is its tough materials – durable enough to withstand years of use, but lightweight enough for easy travel. Like all other Advanced Elements inflatable kayaks, the Lagoon 2 is super easy to inflate and deflate.

Due to its excellent tracking and stability, the Lagoon 2 can also be fun for solo paddlers.

Overall, the Advanced Elements Lagoon 2 is a great inflatable kayak for recreational paddlers who don’t want to deal with the hassles of a hard shell kayak. Additionally, it’s quite affordable when compared to hard shell kayaks of similar size and bearing.
